Presentation

This Luncheon and Mini-Workshop will feature two short presentations followed by a discussion. The agenda is planned as follows:

  • 11:30 - Registration and Welcome
  • 12:00 - Lunch and Networking
  • 12:30 - Introduction and Sponsor Presentations
  • 12:45 - "Dynamic Coordinate Reference Systems" with Craig Allinson (BP) - It may feel only like yesterday that our Data Stores and software “standardised on the use of WGS 84 as the “hub datum” to allow for data to be stored in a common CRS with the ability to translate between different local CRSs, but in all this time the earth has been subject to Plate Tectonics. Whilst our Geologists may think in terms of Paleo motion, our data is also subject to positional change. Many countries are considering adoption of new national Geodetic Datums to reflect this movement (i.e. Australia GDA2020) and so both our data stores and our software will need to be able to accommodate both the parameters and the need to record the epoch of data collection for us to perform the necessary coordinate change to correctly register current positions of this valuable data. For more information regarding Dynamic verses static CRSs and the use of ITRF (instead of simply WGS 84) I suggest this IOGP Guidance Note https://www.iogp.org/bookstore/product/geomatics-guidance-note-25-dynamic-v…
  • 13:15 - "What Is A Completion" with Elizabeth Patock, UK Leadership Team - an introduction to 'What Is A Completion' followed by a discussion about it.
  • 13:45 - Group Discussion
  • 14:30 - Event Close
    An Event flyer is available.
