Presentation
Susan Nash, Director of Innovation and Emerging Science / Technology at the AAPG - American Association of Petroleum Geologists
will present a talk entitled
"New Data Tools for Uncovering New Opportunities for Old Fields"
Abstract:
Getting the most out of oil and gas fields that have been producing for, in some cases, more than a century is both a challenge and an opportunity. We will take a look at some of the new data tools and techniques that make it possible to pinpoint where to drill for oil remaining in shallow zones, how to optimize a waterflood, how to identify and stop methane leaks, how to select abandoned and orphan wells for plugging, and how to identify multiple potential revenue streams from a single legacy field. New tools include screening software, data management architecture, well log visualization and more from local companies and the Oklahoma Geological Survey. We will talk about how revenue flows can come from new uses for flared or stranded gas, brine mining, carbon credit generation, integrated water purification, and more.
