Introduction & Why You Should Attend

The 2017 Perth Data Management Workshop (formerly known as Symposium) is a one-day event featuring plenary presentations, interactive discussions and networking opportunities. Taking place this year on August 10 at the Curtin University near downtown Perth, this annual event is attended by a variety of organizations and attendees from Analysts up to CEOs. Our attendees enjoy opportunities to stay current with what's new in both data management and oil and gas industry, connect with their peers, learn about professional development opportunities, reach potential clients, and more. Learn more about who attends and why you should be one of them. We have also included a letter that you can use with your management team to encourage your attendance at PPDM Events.

Agenda, Schedule & Abstracts

The theme for this year's Perth Workshop is "Traditional vs Emerging E&P Data Management." The oil industry has always been a cyclical one and it is going through challenging times right now.  E&P data and people may be the companies' main assets, but data volumes, variety and complexity are increasing dramatically while data expertise is becoming more difficult to access.  Keeping the (data management) lights on during a downturn may not seem like a priority to management, yet the expectation is that the data will be ready for exploitation when needed, including in new ways such as "data mining" and "machine learning".  The workshop features presentations which will review either the traditional and proven practices of data management or emerging practices which are evolving in this modern changing environment, and how the PPDM programs and activities can support this evolution in the different organisations of our industry.

The agenda is now available! A PDF Event flyer is also available for distribution.

Thank you to DataCo for sponsoring the Lunch.

Special this year, a Field Trip has been organized for the day before the Workshop (August 9).  This field trip will include a tour of the the Perth Core Library, located in Carlisle, and administered by the Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA). If you work with petroleum data and have not had the opportunity to see a purpose-built facility of this kind, it should be on your bucket list! The Field Trip includes bus transportation, the tour and some snacks. The bus will leave at 1:00pm with tours beginning at 1:30. The tours will end at 4pm, with everyone returned by Bus at around 4:30pm. There is limited space available for this Field Trip, and a minimum number of attendees must be met by July 10, 2017, for the field trip to take place. If you are interested in attending this field trip in addition to the Workshop, please select the appropriate registration level below.  There is an additional charge of $20 USD for the Field Trip to help cover costs. Please note that this field trip has very limited space and participation is first-registered, first served (a waiting list will be generated if all spots are filled, please contact events@ppdm.org if you encounter issues while registering). Only those registered for the workshop are eligible to register for the Field Trip.

The bus will pick up field trip attendees across the street from the CBD Train Station (420 Wellington Street, Perth, WA), and will return them to the same location after the field trip. Field Trip attendees should arrive by 1pm at the very latest, and will be returned at approximately 4pm. There will be a presentation and snacks provided as a part of the field trip.
