Field Trip
Field Trip Information
- Join us for our Southern Alberta Field trip, featuring stops in the Crowsnest Pass at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, the Turner Valley Gas Plant, and the Eau Claire Distillery. The field trip includes a light breakfast, snacks, lunch, transportation, and tours. Passes may be purchased for additional guests/spouses to join (note that their membership status will apply to the pricing). The Field Trip is an additional $125 for members and $225 for non-members in addition to the Symposiums fees. Please note that this field trip will involve walking outside - please wear comfortable, closed toe shoes, and be ready for cold weather. No one under 18 may take this field trip.
Timing
- 7:00 AM - Departure from Calgary downtown, location to be confirmed.
- 9:30 AM - Arrival at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre. Learn about the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre on their website. - The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, in southern Alberta's spectacular Crowsnest Pass, overlooks Canada's deadliest rockslide. See and hear first-hand what happened the night Turtle Mountain fell. Enjoy engaging storytelling, interactive displays, gripping accounts, and award-winning shows.
- 11:30 AM - Pick up lunch from Subway (requests will be taken in advance) and departure of the Crowsnest Pass for the Turner Valley Gas Plant
- 1:45 PM - Arrival at the Turner Valley Gas Plant. Learn about the Turner Valley Gas Plant on their website. - Come visit Western Canada's first commercial oilfield and processing plant in Turner Valley. Take a guided tour around the site, exhibit hall, and through some of the historic buildings and explore the birthplace of Alberta's petroleum industry.
- 3:15 PM - Tour of the Eau Claire Distillery - To end the day on a light note, we'll enjoy a tour of the Eau Claire Distillery. Learn about the Eau Claire Distillery on their website. - The new distillery is housed in the circa-1929 Turner Valley Movie Theatre and Dance Hall that in early days served as town hall, political rally centre, dance hall and community gathering spot. Located In a place of storied history our distillery can talk to Turner Valley’s checkered and illustrious past. To the east was a famous house of ‘ill repute’; to the west a general store. In the hills, an aptly named landmark feature called Whiskey Ridge hid moonshine stills. On the north end of town was the notorious street called Whiskey Row.
- 4:15 pm - Departure back to the meeting spot in Downtown Calgary for approximately 5:30 PM

- The Calgary Data Management Symposium, Tradeshow & AGM will be at a new venue for 2019 - the University of Calgary Downtown Campus, located at 906 8 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2P 1H9. We will be in the mainfloor Event rooms along with the foyer.
Room Block
- There will not be a room block for this year's event.
Transportation & Parking

There are a variety of parking lots around the University of Calgary Downtown Campus, along with easy Transit access - you can visit www.calgarytransit.com to find the schedules and plan your trip. Due to low usage in previous years, no shuttle will be organized for 2019.
Networking Opportunities

Beyond the networking opportunities during meals and breaks, this year the Symposium programming will include one networking reception.
PPDM will continue tradition with the annual Tradeshow Reception at the University of Calgary Downtown Campus on October 22, which gives attendees a chance to meet with the exhibitors and enjoy some social time with each other following the day of sessions and AGM.
Virtual Attendance
- A Virtual Registration option is available, as long as a minimum of 6 individuals sign up to attend virtually. This will feature a Webex style webinar with presentation and audio.
International Visitors
- For those travelling from outside of Canada, please review the eligibility requirements with the Government of Canada. If you require a letter of introduction to attend, please email events@ppdm.org with your contact information.
Pricing
Prices are in Canadian Dollars and are subject to 5% GST. Individual memberships are only $100 to sign up now to save. Discounts are available for groups of 5 or more individuals. Other discounts such as student, speaker or sponsorship codes may apply. When multiple discounts are available, only the highest discount rate will apply. Discounts are not retroactive, so please contact us PRIOR to registering to get your promotional code.
