Target Audience:
This nine-part series targets individuals who are new to how seismic data is created and used in the resource industry.

Course Description:
This 2-part class is part of the business processes and life cycle series and is intended to help data professionals ensure that high quality seismic data is stewarded for industry use. You will learn about five elements of a data ecosystem. The class will cover an introduction to seismic, why seismic is hard to manage, seismic sets, seismic identity and version management, seismic locations, seismic records, regulatory reporting, planning, regulatory licensing and authorizations, seismic acquisition.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Recognize components of seismic data and the seismic life cycle
  • Cite why seismic data is hard to manage and is so complicated
  • Define what a seismic set is and list different types of seismic sets and important attributes
  • Describe seismic identity and version management, and some of the challenges associated with each
  • Define seismic locations (e.g., points, lines, polygons), seismic coordinate systems and spatial data integrity
  • List types of seismic records and best practices for records management
  • Discuss regulatory seismic reporting, data retention, data records and public disclosure
  • Explain why seismic planning is important, and list components relevant to the planning process
  • Discuss regulatory licenses and permits, and give examples of types of permits and authorizations needed
  • Describe the seismic acquisition process and seismic acquisition components
  • Outline the components of seismic processing and discuss each process
  • Describe the key steps for seismic interpretation and the general requirements for interpretation data
  • Discuss seismic transactions and brokerage

Evaluation Method(s) / Metrics:
