Target Audience:

This course is designed for professionals who have some familiarity with data management concepts and want to strengthen their competency in data governance as part of professional accreditation or career development pathways.

Course Description:
You will be introduced to the principles, practices, and challenges of data governance in the energy industry. Participants will explore why governance matters, how it supports decision-making, compliance, and trust, and what it takes to implement and sustain effective programs. Through case studies, frameworks, and exercises, learners will build competency in establishing governance roles, policies, and practices.

Learning Outcomes (with competency levels):
  On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Awareness: Define data governance and explain why it is critical to organizational success.
  • Awareness: Recognize the consequences of poor governance (e.g., compliance failures, financial losses, mistrust in data).
  • Knowledge: Describe key frameworks, principles, and roles in data governance, including the DGI framework and stewardship models.
  • Knowledge: Identify the relationship between governance, master data, data quality, and metadata management.
  • Application: Analyze governance failures and propose strategies to address risks.
  • Application: Develop a high-level plan for implementing and sustaining governance, including KPIs, policies, and change management approaches.

Metrics:
Concept checks throughout the course.
Final Exam - Students must achieve 70% or higher on the exam to obtain a completion award.
 
Completion Award:
PPDM Association Certificate of Completion, Badge, PDU for CPDA.
