This picture was taken at 4:12 am using a DSLR camera with a 14mm wide angle lens. It was shot with an ISO of 1600 and a shutter speed of 30 seconds. The bright object over the tree is the planet Mars.

Description

Red paper wasps (Polistes carolina) are found in the eastern United States and build nests of paper made from plant fibers bound by saliva. This one was gathering fibers from plants along the stream (local term: bayou) next to my house and had stopped to clean either its front leg or mandibles.
